a case of the Mondays

It is Monday morning at 8:01 am precisely. Yes, I should be at work. In fact, I should have been at work 30 minutes ago. I actually got out of bed on time this morning. I took a shower and got ready for work without any problems. I didn't even have trouble picking out what I was going to wear. So what's the problem? Well...let me tell you...

I got a promotion last week at work (woo hoo!) and, naturally, I planned to be an exceptional employee this week so as to reinforce to my boss that promoting me was a good move. As I mentioned before I got ready for work with no problems this morning and, consequently, left the house a little earlier than usual. I decided that I needed a smoothie for breakfast to help me start my day (and to reward myself for doing so good this morning). So I got the smoothie and then stopped at the gas station to fill up before heading to work. This is when it starts to get bad. I SPILLED MY SMOOTHIE!!!! It was sitting in the cup holder and, as I turned a corner, it tipped and fell onto the floor on the passenger side. I tried to catch it while turning but in the process got it all over myself. Ugh! So I stopped at the nearest place to grab some napkins and do a quick clean up job. Well, I picked up the cup hoping to scoop up some of the mess into it and then the bottom fell out. What kind of flimsy cup is this! By the way, this smoothie had lots of blueberries and strawberries in it so it was not a subtle color that was staining the carpet of my car.

At this point I felt I had no choice but to head home and clean myself and my car. I called my boss and left an amusing message. I was laughing as I explained what happened but the laughter was only so I wouldn't cry. I stopped at wal-greens to pick up a bottle of carpet cleaner and headed home. The directions on the bottle said to spray and let sit for 5 minutes before wiping with a damp cloth. Repeat as necessary. I followed the directions and repeated. Then I repeated again and again and again. I've lost count on the repeats at this point so I decided to let it soak in for a bit longer. I think it's been sitting for long enough so I'm going to close this blog post and go see if the carpet looks any better yet. I hope this isn't an indication of how the rest of the day is going to go....

always, always, always a bridesmaid

Ok...not really. This was only my second time to be a bridesmaid and I was honored to be a part of this wedding. My good friend (and roommate senior year of college) got married in Colorado a few weeks ago. It was a great excuse to take a few days off work, go visit a more scenic place than Oklahoma (it's not hard to get more scenic than that) and see some friends that I haven't seen in years. Now I definitely wasn't the perfect bridesmaid...at least I was nothing like the girl in 27 Dresses. I came from out of town so my bridesmaid duties basically consisted of just showing up and being in a few pictures. And Brandie...I just want you to know that during your outdoor wedding there was a huge bug on my shoulder. It took everything I had in me not to scream and jump around to get that thing off me. So I may not remember everything about the ceremony as I was concentrating quite hard on the bug but it was a beautiful wedding and I'm so excited that it didn't get rained out. I'm still waiting to see the pictures by the way...

So since I don't have a pic of the wedding to share with you this one will have to do. This was taken years ago just after we all graduated from college.

There's no better way to celebrate your birthday...than at the Oklahoma Opry??

My birthday was this past weekend...I'm another year older and another year closer to 30. That doesn't bother me so much. Ask me again next year and I'll see how I feel about that...

I had a great birthday though and got to celebrate all weekend long starting on Friday night. I was taken out for a special birthday dinner at one of my favorite restaurants and had a fantastic evening! On saturday night the excitement grew even more as I headed to the Oklahoma Opry. That's right folks...this girl from Oregon that has resisted becoming an Oklahoman every step of the way actually step foot inside the Oklahoma Opry! Aside from having to listen to country music all night it was highly entertaining and an enjoyable way to spend the evening. I never thought I would be telling people that I went to the Opry. But there you have it...this is what living in Oklahoma for several years will do to you. I wonder what surprising things I will be participating in next year? That is if I'm not sitting at home depressed at how close I'm getting to the big 3-0...
