Sunrise, sunset, swiftly fly the years

In the second show of the season, the roommate and I went and saw Fiddler on the Roof. I’m pretty sure that every high school, college and community theater group has performed this musical at some point. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve seen it. But I love the story and I love the music even more!

This excursion downtown was not quite as eventful as last time. Nobody yelled at us during intermission or tried to scam us out of five bucks on the street. However, I can’t seem to do anything without coming back with some sort of story. It keeps life interesting.

We parked across the street from the police station this time so there would be no chance of someone trying to scam us. If you live in this part of the country then you know how hot it’s been lately. It’s been about 500 degrees here with 1000% humidity. That’s a slight exaggeration but I’m not far off. So our short walk to the theater was actually a little excruciating and walking into an air conditioned building never felt so good.

During the middle of the first half of the show Lindsy fell asleep. She’ll deny this but it has to be true. One second she was leaning back in the seat looking relaxed and the next second she jumped forward and kicked her leg out. Hmm…doesn’t that sound like she was sleeping and had one of those falling dreams? It was hard not to laugh. Then, during intermission, the couple on my right threw an M&M at me. Who throws M&M’s at a musical? Classy people…real classy!

The second half of the show seemed to be going well and I thought we would make it through without incident. Have you ever been in an audience and found something particularly funny only to realize you’re the only person laughing? That’s me. I vividly remember the exact line from the show that set me off. I’ve been told that when I’m struck by something funny my laugh can be somewhat loud. I, however, like to refer to it as a big, appreciative laugh. And there I was…the only one laughing. Laughing really loud. Good thing the show was almost over.

Next up…Godspell. I’ve heard that the show will be like Cirque and have been promised aerial acrobatics.

no musical can touch Rent... none at all. fiddler schmiddler.
